Losing weight is probably the most common New Year’s resolution. Unfortunately, by the time 2nd January arrives, this resolution is long forgotten. If weight loss had been on the list of your New Year’s resolution, you have come to right place. In this article, you’ll find seven easy ways to lose weight that will remotivate you to achieve your weight loss goal.
1. Add, don’t exclude
People usually prefer to diet to lose weight. However, most diets today are too limiting which doesn’t only affect the individual’s motivation, but can also have a negative impact on his health if he continues with such eating habits. Why? It’s because the body needs a variety of nutrients to function properly and eliminating certain food groups automatically excludes valuable nutrients that the particular food group provides.
To lose weight successfully, instead of excluding certain foods from your diet, try adding foods. A registered dietitian David Grotto, RD, LDN, author of 101 Optimal Life Foods, said adding foods really works, while taking them away from the diet doesn’t. By this, he means to add different healthy foods such as berries, peas and more, into your usual diet. Therefore, the first thing to do when you want to lose weight is to make sure that your diet for weight loss contains an abundance of different food groups. Also, consuming food containing alot of fiber can aid in the weight loss process.
2. You don’t have to be extremely physically active in the gym
You already know that physical activity is of extreme importance for weight loss. However, most people equate physical activity to spending hours in the gym doing a plethora of different types of exercises. What makes most people fail is the fact that they don’t enjoy their workouts. When you have to do something you don’t like, you tend to lose motivation and willpower easily.
If you’re one of those people who want to lose weight but don’t like exercising, you can always try something else. For example, you can consider taking a walk every day or mix it up by enjoying a nice walk one day and jogging the next, washing the car, cleaning the house, riding a bike or hiking. There are many ways to be physically active without having to complete a series of exercises you don’t really enjoy.
3. Stay motivated
One of the key factors to successful weight loss is staying motivated. And you can stay motivated by writing motivational notes to yourself. For example, you can leave a note on your mirror motivating yourself to work hard to look even better. You can also leave a note in the pantry or on the fridge motivating yourself to choose something healthy to eat. In addition, come up with your personal motivational quotes that you can repeat to yourself whenever you feel like giving up.
Some of my personal favorites include:
I’ve made it this far; I can hold on and go all the way.
I can accomplish everything I want.
I want to lose weight to be healthy.
Impossible is nothing.
4. Avoid weighing yourself too often
When we want to lose weight, we step on the scale far too often. This isn’t healthy as weight loss is an ongoing process and when you noticed you didn’t lose any weight since the last weigh, usually just few days ago, you can get discouraged. Instead, opt to step on the scale only once a month. Keep a log of your progress; write down a date and your weight and try to weigh yourself on the same date every month.
Furthermore, it’s not only about the weighing scale. You can obsess over measuring the width of your hips, chest, thighs, biceps, etc, too. Opt to do this measurement once a month as well and write down the results to keep your achievements in perspective.
5. Reward yourself
Are you thinking of buying a new pair of shoes or maybe a new bag? You can make the weight loss process more enjoyable by choosing to reward yourself for reaching each target weight. It’s easy to achieve; whenever you step on the scale and see you’ve lost weight, put a certain amount of money into a jar; you can decide how much that’s going to be. When you reach the target weight, use that money to buy something you wanted and reward yourself.
6. Size matters
French women are considered elegant, sophisticated, and they’re also famous for their eating habits. Their secret to their healthy weight is simple – they eat everything, but in smaller portions. Using big plates can make it seem like you didn’t eat enough food and make you crave for more. On the other hand, using smaller plates tricks your brain into thinking you already ate too much and thus prevents you from overeating. Consider choosing the smaller plate to pile your food, especially during your next buffet meal.
7. Get involved
Most people eat when they’re bored, and this prevents them from losing weight. You can easily avoid this problem by taking up a hobby, getting involved in the activities within the community, or get together with friends. When your mind is occupied, you won’t feel bored, and won’t be tempted to eat.
Weight loss doesn’t have to be such a demanding task. And in fact, losing weight can be fun. Hope this article has presented some useful and effective tips to help you reach your healthy target weight!
